After a winter break, the successful Strandbeesten Mortuary in Delft is coming back to life. This exhibition is an initiative of Kabeldistrict Delft and artist Theo Jansen, in collaboration with Museum Prinsenhof Delft. On Sunday, April 19, the revamped exhibition featuring the famous Strandbeesten opens its doors to the public, and it promises to be a special edition.
The exhibition has been updated. In addition to the impressive collection of Strandbeesten, several interactive elements have been added, allowing visitors to experience the unique world of these self-moving artworks even more vividly. Due to the great success of last year, the opening hours have been extended and the exhibition can also be visited on Sundays.
Meet Theo Jansen
In the exhibition, you follow Theo Jansen’s years of research into realizing his dream: creatures that can live independently on the beach. Jansen speaks about this with great passion. On Sunday, April 19, he will be present himself from 1:00 PM. This gives visitors a unique opportunity to meet the artist and hear all about his fascinating life’s work. Everyone is warmly welcome to let themselves be carried away into the wondrous world of wind, movement, and imagination.
Cable district fitting decor
Over the coming years, a vibrant Delft city district will rise along the Schie on the site of the former Dutch Cable Factory, combining living, working, and leisure. Plans for the area include approximately 3,200 homes and 1,250 jobs. Kabeldistrict, where innovation and experimentation take center stage, forms the perfect setting for this special exhibition. In the enormous former Expedition Hall, visitors to the Strandbeesten Mortuary are surprised by the combination of art and technology.
Museum Prinsenhof Delft OUTSIDE
The Strandbeesten Mortuary is part of the programming of Museum Prinsenhof Delft during the period that the museum is closed for the major renovation. Theo Jansen’s work was previously on display at the museum in the solo exhibitionUniversum Theo Jansen and during De KunstParade, the last exhibition before the renovation. Upon reopening, the new museum will have more space for contemporary art.
Committed volunteers
The Strandbeesten Mortuary is made possible with great dedication and enthusiasm by a committed group of volunteers who enjoy taking visitors along on the journey behind the Strandbeesten.
