On Monday morning, October 5, tram 19 ran from Delft station to the TU Delft Campus for the first time.

With the extension of tram 19, there is a direct and fast public transport connection between the region and TU Delft, one of the most important knowledge and innovation clusters in the Netherlands. It ensures that the campus is more accessible to thousands of students, staff, and visitors of TU Delft and contributes to the further economic development of Delft and the region.

During the festive first ride early Monday morning, Frank van Vliet (Alderman for Mobility, Municipality of Delft), Adeel Mahmood (Alderman for Mobility, The Hague and Board Member of the Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Area MRDH), and Thea de Vries, General Director of HTM, traveled from Delft station to TU Delft. At the new Aula tram stop, they were welcomed by Nick Bos (Member of the Executive Board of TU Delft/Vice President Operations), Ronald Kuil (Chair of the TU Delft Works Council), and Anna Sysling (Chair of the TU Delft Student Council).

Adeel Mahmood, MRDH Board Member: ‘With the extension of Tram 19, we are investing in the accessibility of the region. Good accessibility is the driving force behind economic development, because it better connects people, businesses, and knowledge institutions. Tram 19 makes travel between Delft station, the campus, and the rest of the region faster, more comfortable, and more sustainable. This is how we keep our metropolitan region attractive, accessible, and economically strong for our residents and entrepreneurs.’

From October 5, HTM will operate tram 19 between Leidschendam and the TU Delft Campus. From Delft Station, tram 19 continues via the Zuidpoort and Julianalaan stops to the TU Delft Campus, with stops at Aula, Mekelpark, Berlageweg, and Schoemakerstraat. The commissioning of tram 19 to the TU Delft Campus marks the completion of an intensive collaboration between the MRDH, the Municipality of Delft, TU Delft, and HTM. The new connection brings the campus closer to the region and the region closer to the campus.
