The Australian circus company Gravity & Other Myths is back in theater DE VESTE on the 12th of November with ‘The Mirror’. Gravity and Other Myths is known worldwide for their unique mix of breathtaking acrobatics, playful humor, and endless imagination. They have also managed to fill theaters at DE VESTE before, leaving enthusiastic audiences behind. With their latest show ‘The Mirror’, they once again confirm their status as one of the world’s leading circus companies.
In ‘The Mirror,’ ten top acrobats face a pressing question: What does it even mean to be yourself in a world where we’re constantly being watched? Screens, selfies, and social expectations are increasingly shaping how we see ourselves and others. With spectacular human towers, dizzying jumps, and acrobatic tricks, the performers explore the boundary between authenticity and the image we present of ourselves.
Director Darcy Grant amplifies the performance with LED screens, cameras, and selfie sticks, making the audience not just spectators of the spectacle but also prompting them to think about the role of watching and being watched. Live-sung pop medleys and electronic music by Megan Drury add extra energy and emotional depth to the show. The result is an immersive mix of humor, emotion, and incredible physical feats, showing that circuses can not only amaze but also raise questions about who we are and how we relate to each other.
